The University of Mons has been honored once again in the Shanghai 2022 rankings

Once again, the University of Mons was honored in the 2022 edition of the Shanghai Ranking. UMONS is really well placed in three fields namely Physics, Materials Science/Engineering and Chemistry. For the latter two, it ranks as the first French-speaking Belgian university, retaining the top spot since the publication of the previous ranking.

Once again this year, the University of Mons stands out in the Shanghai World Ranking of Universities by Subject/Department published in July 2022. In this 2022 edition, UMONS is ranked 151-200 in the world ranking, making it the third Belgian university. After KU Leuven and Ghent and the first of the French-speaking institutions“, says Charlotte Janiaux, communications officer for UMONS.”For physics, it is in the bracket of 301-400 best ranked universities in the world, 7th in Belgium and third among French-speaking universities. In Chemistry, it falls in the 301-400 world bracket and rises to be the 4th Belgian university and again the first French-speaking university.

The Rector of UMONS, Professor Philippe Dubois, is delighted with these new awards. “I am only happy with our university’s result in this Shanghai ranking, these criteria are not very favorable for small institutions like us internationally. These results, focused on scientific productivity, similar to those already published by U-Multirank and QS, two rankings that work differently, attest in any way to the quality of our researchers’ work”He says.

As a reminder, the Shanghai ARWU Ranking – for Academic Ranking of World Universities – publishes a ranking of the best universities in the world every year. This UNICOR ranking uses five criteria to identify the “best universities” in each ranked field. These criteria include the number of articles published by an institution in the field, the impact citation normalized by field, the proportion of publications affiliated with at least two countries, the number of articles published in top journals, and the number of members.
