E-commerce company Amazon (AMZN) announced on Tuesday that it will open five new facilities in Quebec, which will lead to the creation of a thousand jobs.
A new sorting center located in Cோte d’Ivoire in Monterey is set to open in 2021 and generate at least 500 jobs. The first Amazon sorting center in Longwell, Quebec, went into service shortly before the holiday season.
The US company will open all three distribution centers in La Belle County by 2022. Two are located in Laval and the other is in Lachin on the island of Montreal. Eventually, hundreds of jobs will be created there.
“Our new facility will enable us to meet the growing demand for the best products and quick delivery times from customers,” said Jean-Franசois Herux, Amazon Canada Site Manager.
Delivery times are expected to decrease under the new business. “This expansion will benefit thousands of local businesses in partnership with Amazon, to get their products to customers around the world, especially at this critical time,” Herx said.
Amazon opened its first operations center in Quebec in July 2020, located in Lachin, an operating center.
